4. Which of your Lux-Right™ areawalls meet egress code?
Egress code as defined by the International Code Council pertains to a standard set of dimensions that are adopted and interpreted locally. Always consult your local building inspector for the exact requirements for your area. All our Lux-Right areawalls will meet or exceed local and national egress codes when ordered according to the IRC2003 guidelines. Please don't be misled into thinking another companies areawalls have a unique feature to qualify for egress. Egress code is simply about measurements. Top

6. What material is your Lux-Right™ areawall product line made from?
Thank you for asking! Since areawalls are buried in the ground in a variety of soil conditions it is important to have confidence that they will withstand the rigors of four seasons as well as less than ideal backfilling procedures. Galvanized steel is still the most cost effective and durable material for window well applications. We also offer a roll-coated pre paint white option at additional cost. Remember, the amount of galvanize (zinc) coating is the sole determinant of any steel product longevity. Please see our Areawall Comparison literature for more information. Steel thickness must be appropriate for the dimensions required. Lux-Right™ areawalls are made from prime steel in thickness of 20 to 16 gauges depending on grade designation. All Lux-Right™ areawalls are G-90 galvanized. Unlike plastic areawalls that become brittle with age or wood that will rot over time, steel areawalls will not burn like vinyl siding. Ask about the differences.

7. What are your sizing recommendations?
After checking for egress compliance we recommend to size the areawalls width to have a 3" overlap on both sides of the masonry opening. Window buck mount require actual hole to hole measurements. Vertical height is determined by the finished grade allowing for suitable slope away from the foundation for water management. Please order enough areawall height to have 10-12" below your window sill and 2" above your finished grade. See our Installation Instruction for more information.

8. You have more choices than anyone else, what's the reason for so many different style and sizes?
We manufacture more sizes and styles than anyone else simply because we have been making areawalls longer than anyone else. Regional differences in building codes require us to make the product that fits your need, not simply the few sizes that we want to offer. Top

9. What can I do to reflect more light in and dress up the appearance of my egress window well?
There is a growing trend towards larger basement windows that enhance basement livability. Options range from do-it-yourself painting, factory option roll coated pre-paint white finish, or the simple to install high quality scene called Window Well Pictures. Top

10. I've seen areawalls with steps built in. Do you offer such a product?
Yes. In fact we originated the concept back in the early 80's. Not only does our Terrace Step™ areawall have built in safety steps, it is the only product on the market that meets both the full 36" projection requirement of the IRC2003, and also does not have to be assembled by the end user. Remember that egress code suggests 36" projection out from the foundation. Egress ladders can project 3" into this dimension but the bottom of the window well must still meet this 36" dimensional requirement. Does your window well meet this code? Top

11. What's the purpose of the double bead your literature refers to?
In addition to making our wall stronger against the pressures of backfilling and frost heaving, our double bead makes for safer handling of the product. See Areawall Comparison for more Lux-Right™ differences. Top

12. Do you sell to the public?
No. Our products are only available through your local building material dealer. This website is offered as an information resource to all users. We do welcome suggestions and feedback from our contractor and do-it-yourself friends. Please use the contact us link to share your thoughts with us. Top

13. Can you ship UPS?
Yes. Although very few of our products meet UPS size requirements, we strive to find the most cost effective means to ship all orders. Top

14. Are any of your areawalls in kit form?
No. due to the structural demands of backfilling and active soil conditions, we do not believe in job-site assembly. Frost heaving can wreck havoc on under designed or improperly installed areawalls causing kit walls to "pop". We strive to provide you a lasting manufactured product that doesn't require you to finish our work. For example, our Terrace Step areawall is delivered to you as a once piece spot-welded finished unit making for the strongest step wall available. "No assembly required." Top

15. How long will your galvanized Lux-Right™ areawalls last?
A very long time. Since we innovated the galvanized metal areawall over seventy years ago, many of our products are still in the field confirming the value of galvanized steel as a proven material. Products with less zinc coating will not stand the test of time. Paint is not zinc. Plastic becomes brittle over time. Compare warranties for the real answer. Top

16. Does St. Paul Corrugating offer a basement window?
No. We've resisted getting into the window business simply because there are so many quality windows on the market today. In addition, we have several OEM window manufacturers as customers. We produce products that work with all manufacturers window systems. Top
